3 sentenced to death in Jhenaidah gang rape case

A Jhenaidah court on Monday ordered the hanging of three youths in the gang rape case of a 7th grader girl in Jhenaidah.

Judge Md Mizanur Rahman of Jhenaidah Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal gave the verdict in the afternoon.

The convicts are Badsha Mia, of Khajura Purb Para of Jhenaidah municipal area, Ruhul Amin, of Khajura Joardar Para and Mannu Mia, of Khajura Sheikh Para village.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Bajlur Rahman of the tribunal said that on August 12, 2019, the schoolgirl of Khajura village of sadar upazila was sleeping in her room. She woke up and went outside the house after not finding her mother. At that time, Badsha Mia of the same area kidnapped her and took her to a nearby mango orchard.

There, Badsha, along with Ruhul Amin and Mannu Mia raped the schoolgirl and locked her in a room at Tamanna Park. The girl returned home after being discharged at 12am.

In this incident, the victim's father filed a case at the sadar police station the next day. After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet in the court accusing three people, PP Bajlur added.

After a long trial, the court sentenced the accused three to be hanged.

At the same time, each was fined Tk1 lakh.
