BNP preparing to unleash violence: Quader

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said that the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party was preparing to unleash violence across the country.

‘Under the disguise of movements, BNP activists are preparing to commit violence and conspire against the government,’ Quader said while addressing a peace rally as the chief guest in front of the party headquarters on the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue.

Dhaka South Awami League organised the peace rally to counter BNP’s rallies on Friday at its 10 divisional headquarters to press home its 10-point demand, including holding the next election under a non-party caretaker government.

Quader, the road transport and bridges minister, said that the BNP conspired with foreign powers to topple the government.

‘BNP’s only goal is to topple the Awami League government and prime minister Sheikh Hasina. To make that happen, they are conspiring with foreign powers,’ Quader said.

The three-consecutive term AL general secretary also labelled BNP’s movement as a failure.

‘BNP’s movement is a failure because they could not gather public support,’ Quader added.

The senior AL leader also added that the upcoming national polls, scheduled at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, will be held in a free and fair manner according to the constitution.
