2 killed in separate accidents involving buses in Jatrabari

Two persons were killed and two others were injured in two separate road accidents in Dhaka's Jatrabari area early today.

The deceased were identified as Md Selim, 30, a bus driver of Somoy Paribahan, and Miraz Mia, 25, a tailor.

Selim along with another driver Saddam was returning to his Shanir Akhra home on a rickshaw after parking their buses at Chittagong Road area.

As the rickshaw reached Hashem Road around 1:30am, a bus of Thikana Paribahan hit it, leaving the two passengers and the rickshaw-puller injured, said Sajib Islam, another bus driver of Somoy Paribahan said.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where Selim passed away in the morning, he said.

In another accident, Miraz suffered critical injuries after a speeding bus hit him as he was crossing the road in Chourasta area around 4:00am. He was rushed to DMCH where doctors declared him dead around 5:30am, said Tuhin Mia, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station.

Both the bodies were kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Sub-inspector Kamruzzaman, duty officer of Jatrabari Police Station, said drivers of the both buses fled after the accidents. Police are tying to arrest them.
