Serajul Alam Khan no more

Serajul Alam Khan, one of the key organisers of the Liberation War, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital this afternoon. He was 82.

He breathed his last around 2:30pm at the intensive care unit of the hospital, DMCH Director Brig Gen Nazmul Haque told.

Serajul was admitted to the DMCH with old-age complications on May 20. As his condition deteriorated, he was put on life support around 9:20pm yeserday, hospital sources said.

The unmarried Serajul, who had spent a long time in the United States, lived with his brothers in Dhaka's Kalabagan area.

Although he never held a leadership position in the Jatiya Samjtantrik Dal (JSD), he was known as the spiritual leader of the party. To his followers, he was "Dada Bhai".

As he never publicly took action and worked behind the scenes, he was known as the "Mystery Man" in the country's political arena.
