Journo murder: Wife files case against UP chairman, 21 others

Monira Begum, the wife of slain Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadeem, has filed a case against 22 individuals over their alleged involvement in her husband's murder, with Sadhurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu being the key accused.

The case was lodged at Bokshiganj police station on Saturday afternoon, three days after the attack that led to Nadeem's demise.

Some 20-25 unknown persons were accused in the case as well.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Babu in Chilahati union of Debiganj upazila, Panchagarh.

On Friday, the Awami League temporarily suspended Babu from the party.

Bokshiganj Awami League President Shahina Begum and General Secretary Ismail Hossain Talukdar Babul issued a letter in this regard.

Nadeem, the Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com, was attacked on the night of June 14 in Bokshiganj and was brutally beaten by unidentified assailants.

Up to 15 people, allegedly led by UP Chairman Babu, attacked Nadeem in the Paathaati Mor area when he was returning home on a motorbike after work.

He died of a severe brain haemorrhage on Thursday morning at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Nadeem was buried at his family graveyard in Gomer Char village after two funeral prayers on Friday.

So far, 10 people have been arrested over the murder of the journalist. The arrestees are followers of Sadhurpara UP Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu.
