The High Court on Monday ordered Central Hospital’s physician Maksuda Farida Akter Mili to surrender within four weeks in a case filed over alleged negligence and wrong treatment at the hospital that led to the death of a newborn and its mother.
The HC bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order on Wednesday. Deputy attorney general Sujit Chatterjee Bappi confirmed the matter to reporters.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mili filed a petition with the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
According to the case statement, pregnant Akhi had been under supervision of gynecologist Sangjukta Saha of the hospital for the last three months and her condition was stated to be normal.
Earlier, the gynecologist had assured the victim’s family that Akhi would give birth through a normal delivery.
Akhi was hospitalised with labour pain at the hospital under supervision of the gynecologist around on June 10.
Though Sangjukta was not present at the time of hospitalisation, her assistants tried to conduct the cesarean operation at the operation theater which caused the death of their newborn and critical condition of the mother.
On June 10, her husband Yeakub Ali Sumon filed a case against six identified individuals, including Dr Mili, Dr Shahjadi and Dr Munna, and several other unidentified persons bringing allegations of wrong treatment by the physicians that led to the death of the newborn.
Akhi was shifted to Labaid hospital where she died on June 18.
Police arrested the two Shahjadi and Munna on June 15.
