Bail hearing of JnU student Khadija adjourned for four more months

Jagannath University student Khadijatul Kubra, who is facing two Digital Security Act cases for making remark against prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her government, will need to suffer in the jail for four more months as the Appellate Division on Monday adjourned her bail hearing for four months.

Police filed the cases against Khadijatul and Major (retd) Delwar Hossain with Kalabagan and New Market police stations in Dhaka under the DSA on the allegations of spreading anti-government statements and tarnishing the country’s image.

In October, 2020, police sued Khadijatul. She was granted bail by the High Court on February 16 in 2023. But, the chamber judge stayed the bail responding to a petition by the state.

A full bench of the Appellate Division on Monday adjourned hearing of her bail following a government prayer made by assistant attorney general Shaiful Alam, said her lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua.

Khadija was hosting a show titled Humanity for Bangladesh where Delwar Hossain made probative statement and issued various instructions to overthrow the legitimate democratic government of Bangladesh, the statements of the cases said.

It was alleged in the cases that Khadija and Delwar had long been spreading fictitious, fabricated, false, and defamatory statements against the prime minister, various government agencies, and important personalities of the state in an effort to topple the legitimate government.

Khadija was arrested at her house in Mirpur on August 26 in 2020.

When the cases were filed, she was 17 years old; but the police, in the case, mentioned her as a 19-year old.
