Dhaka irked by foreign diplomats’ comments on internal issues

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Friday said diplomats and missions in Dhaka make a big deal out of every little thing that Bangladesh does or happens in the country.

“It is interference in internal affairs. They are nowhere near complying with the Geneva Conventions. Nowhere else in the world do ambassadors become activists and comment on a country's internal issues,” the minister said in response to a question from journalists at an event in Sylhet.

Speaking as chief guest at the event, the foreign minister also said: "As a result of over-publicizing the comments of foreigners in the media, they continue to talk about the internal affairs of Bangladesh, and they enjoy it thinking that they are emperors of this country."

He advised the media to boycott those who make such comments.
