Long tailbacks in Aminbazar as police set up checkpost

Dhaka-bound commuters suffered immensely on Saturday on the Dhaka-Aricha highway as police set up a checkpost in Savar's Aminbazar ahead of the BNP's rally in the capital, causing severe traffic congestion.

In the morning, a four-kilometre traffic jam was created from Aminbazar to Baliarpur on the highway as a barricade was installed in front of Aminbazar's 20-bed hospital on the highway.

Police were seen conducting comprehensive searches of vehicles, with the barricade placed on the Dhaka-facing lane of the highway. In particular, passengers in Hiace cars were subjected to questioning, while officers checked the documents of various vehicles.

One commuter, Mehedi Hasan Sipon, shared his frustration, saying: "I have been stuck in traffic for two hours while trying to reach a hospital in the capital with my father-in-law. The jam stretched from Baliarpur to Salehpur, causing major delays."

Md Nazmul, a safety officer at a private construction company in Purbachal, said: "It took nearly three hours to cross Ashulia due to the jam and police checks. This delay has significantly impacted my office schedule."

Savar model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Deepak Chandra Saha said: "These precautionary measures are in place to prevent any potential subversive activities within Dhaka.

“Alongside regular traffic police activities, strict document checks of vehicles are being carried out. Authorities emphasize that traffic movement should not be hindered during these checks."
