Fire service driver among 2 killed in accident on way to douse blaze

Two people including a driver of Fire Service and Civil Defence were killed and seven others injured in an accident as a vehicle of a fire fighting unit met a fatal accident while it was on way to fight a fire at a garment factory in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation industrial area under Fatullah in Narayanganj on Monday morning.

The fire service driver is Jahangir Hossain, 50, of Hajiganj Fire Station, police said.

The other deceased whose identity could not be known so far was a pedestrian, they said.

The injured ones who were given treatment are Irani, Sara, Nazma, Amzad, Rokon, Sirajul and Reshma.

Narayanganj Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Hafizur Rahman said that the driver of the fire fighters’ vehicle lost control over the steering and hit the pedestrians, a bus and a rickshaw in front of a market in Chashara area of Narayanganj at about 10:45am.

The accident left the two dead on the spot.

The fire broke out at Fakir Apparels Limited in Fatullah at about 10:30am.

Ten fire fighting units doused the fire at about 11:30am, the Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said.
