Rohingya man shot dead in Cox’s Bazar camp

A Rohingya man was shot dead by members of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) insurgent group allegedly over establishing dominance in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya camp early Sunday.

The deceased is Md Salim, 45, son of Md Nazir Hosain of A-1 block of Rohingya camp number 7 in Kutupalong of Ukhiya upazila.

Quoting local, Ukhiya police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali said a group of Arsa members shot Md Salim and left him on the road at B-5 block of Rohingya shelter camp No 2-West Kutupalong of Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar in the midnight.

Later, the locals rescued him and took him to Kutupalong MSF Hospital. At that time, the doctor on duty at the hospital declared him dead.

"The doctors said that Salim died due to excessive bleeding due to bullet injury in his leg," he added.

The OC said the police were conducting an operation to identify and arrest those involved.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Cox's Bazar 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
