At least eight people were killed and several others missing as a trawler capsized in a tributary of the Padma near Subachani Bazar under Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj Saturday night.
The accident occurred at about 8:30pm, police and locals said.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Louhajang Fire Service station officer Kayes Ahmed said that they recovered eight bodies until 1:30pm.
‘Divers are coming from Dhaka to continue rescue operation more effectively," he said.
Md Sekendar Byapari, chairman of Outshahi Union Parishad, said that he came to know about the trawler capsize and that a total of 46 people were on board the trawler.
Munshiganj additional superintendent of police (finance and administration) Sumon Dev said that he was rushing to the spot.
