Met office forecasts rains in eight divisions

Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicted rains across the country in 24 hours starting from 9am on Wednesday.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Rangpur and Chittagong divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Barisal, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country,” said the morning bulletin of the Met office.

The country’s highest 128mm rainfall was recorded in Kutubdia of Cox’s Bazar district in 24 hours till 6am on Wednesday.

Day temperature may rise by 1°C to 3 °C and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.

Rainfall may increase at the end of the period, it said.

The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across the Northern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay.

Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, it added.
