No specific info on threats for National Mourning Day: DMP chief

There is no information about subversive activities or any other sabotage in the run-up to the National Mourning Day on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq has said.

“However, keeping the issue in mind, law enforcement agencies are on alert. The maximum security has been taken to prevent any kind of sabotage,” he said at a press conference in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.

He said as the national election is ahead, the gathering on August 15 (Monday) will be more than any other year.

He added the president and the prime Minister will pay homage to the August 15 massacre victims in the morning, and then the general public will pay their respects.

Considering this, a two-tier security will be implemented, he added.

Regarding militant attacks, Khandker Golam Faruq said militants have not been completely eradicated in the country.

“A few days ago, a new militant organization was found in Sylhet. Considering this, there is no possibility of any terrorist attack, but strict security has been taken,” he added.
