Hillary Clinton backs Dr Yunus amid legal proceedings

Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has called upon individuals worldwide to rally behind Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, who is currently facing a trial related to labour law violations.

Clinton's impassioned plea was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, where she attached an open letter on Tuesday. This letter, dated Sunday and signed by 176 prominent figures, including an impressive roster of 105 Nobel laureates, urges an end to what they collectively term as "the persecution" of Dr Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank.

With resounding conviction, Clinton's message reverberated: "Stand with me and more than 160 other global leaders to support great humanitarian and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus in his moment of need.

United in their stance, US Senator Dick Durbin resonated with Clinton's call to action through a similar post on the same platform.

“As the lead sponsor of a resolution awarding Muhammad Yunus the Congressional Gold Medal for helping the world’s poor, I join these Nobel laureates in calling for an end to his harassment by the Bangladeshi government.”
