The most senior judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Obaidul Hassan, was on Tuesday appointed new chief justice of Bangladesh.
The president made the appointment exercising his power under Article 95(1) of the constitution, said to a gazette notification issued by law secretary Md Golam Sarwar.
The notification said that the appointment would come into effect swearing in office of the new chief justice.
Justice Obaidul Hassan will be the successor of incumbent chief justice Hasan Foez Siddique, who will retire on September 25.
Justice Obaidul Hassan will retire as chief justice on January 10, 2026.
