6 Bangladeshis die in Libya floods

At least six Bangladeshis died in Libya after Storm Daniel and subsequent flood hit the North African country's eastern part recently, the Bangladesh embassy in Tripoli said in a Facebook post today.

Primarily, four of the deceased Bangladeshis have been identified as Shaheen and Sujan from Rajbari and Mamun and Shihab from Narayanganj.

Identities of the two other deceased were not known yet, reads the post.

The deceased were living in Derna, one of the affected cities.

The embassy feared more Bangladeshis might be missing.

Rasel Miah, first secretary (labour wing) of the mission, said Derna is about 1,400 kilometres away from the capital Tripoli.

He said there could be around 100 Bangladeshis residing in Derna recently.

In total, an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 Bangladeshis including undocumented ones could be residing in Libya at present, according to the Bangladesh mission.
