Additional Inspector General of police (IGP) Habibur Rahman has been made the new commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The public security division of the home ministry issued a circular in this regard today.
The circular signed by deputy secretary Sirajum Munira stated that the the appointment will come into effect immediately.
Habibur, now the chief of Tourist Police, will replace outgoing Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq.
Habibur will assume responsibilities of the DMP chief after Khandker goes on retirement on September 30, DMP sources said.
