Two labourers were crushed to death under the wheels of a sand-laden truck in Barishal city in the early hours today.
The victims, Yunus, 50, and Habib, 25, used to live in West Kaunia area under Ward 1 of Barishal City Corporation.
The incident happened on a road adjacent to Hazera Khatun School in West Kaunia around 1:00am.
According to police and locals, Yunus, Habib, and some other workers were trying to move a truck that got stuck in the sand. As the truck reversed suddenly, the two were crushed under its wheels and died on the spot.
Sagir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station, said they were run over by the truck that was unloading the sand to fill the pond of a contractor's house in the dead of night.
The labourers lived in a rented house of contractor Mamun Chowdhury, he said.
Police and fire service recovered the bodies this morning and sent them to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The truck has been seized, police said.
A complaint was yet to be filed in this regard.
