Khaleda Zia shifted to CCU again, no govt decision yet on treatment abroad

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia was taken to Coronary Care Unit from the cabin again on Friday while the government was yet to give its decision on the family’s application seeking permission for her treatment abroad.

‘Khaleda Zia,  who has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for 51 days since August 9, has been shifted to CCU following her medical board’s advice as her physical complication has  deteriorated,’ said her personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia was taken to CCU twice in the past two weeks.

On September 25, Khaleda’s brother Shamim Iskander submitted an application to the home ministry seeking permission to send the former prime minister abroad for better treatment.

Law minister Anisul Huq on Thursday told media that the home ministry had forwarded the application to the law ministry for its opinion.

The decision on the matter would be made within a short time, he said.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday evening said that his ministry was awaiting the law ministry’s decision regarding the application of the BNP chairperson’s family.

‘We have sent the application from the family of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to the law ministry for a decision since the matter involves legal complications. The law ministry is now supposed to give a decision,’ he said.

The 78-year-old leader has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.

Since her conditional release in 2020, the BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the hospital under a medical board headed by cardiology professor Shahabuddin Talukder.

On August 9, Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital after falling seriously ill at her Gulshan house Feroza following on advice of her medical board.
