2 dead after gunfights in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps

Two people were killed in and after separate gunfights in Balukhali and Jamtali Rohingya refugee camps in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two armed groups became embroiled had exchanged fire in Balukhali camp, leaving a “Rohingya criminal named Yusuf dead,” Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal of the Armed Police Batallion said.

Yusuf was a member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army’s (Arsa) “kill squad,” according to the police office.

There was another gunfight in Jamtali camp between Arsa and another group. Afterwards, Arsa members took a Rohingya teen away, stabbed him dead and fled the area, according to the police.

Ukhiya police station OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali said the two bodies had been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
