Rain hits Dhaka after days of scorching heat

After several days of scorching heat, intermittent rain brought relief to various parts of the country, including Dhaka, on Wednesday.

In the capital, rain showers drenched areas including Motijheel, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Paltan, Shahbagh, Malibagh, Fakirapool, and Bailey Road.

The cloudy skies from Wednesday morning finally released rain by 1pm.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that the showers may persist until next Friday, offering respite from the recent heatwave.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country", according to the Met office forecast.

Day and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.

Country's maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 33.8 degree Celsius at Sayedpur and minimum temperature Wednesday was recorded 24 degree Celsius at Teknaf and Bandarban.

Country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am Wednesday was recorded138 millimetre (mm) at Hatiya.

The low-pressure area over Jharkhand and adjoining area persists. The axis of monsoon trough runs through East Uttar Pradesh, central of the low, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay.
