Workers of a readymade garment factory this morning blocked Begum Rokeya Sarani in Shewrapara area of Mirpur protesting the factory's closure and demanding two months' unpaid wages.
Mohtamim Hasan, assistant commissioner of Mirpur Zone, said the workers of JK Fashion began the blockade around 9:00am.
The blockade resulted in severe traffic congestion in nearby areas, affecting offices and schoolgoers.
Additional police were deployed at the spot to bring the situation under control. However, the situation remained the same till 11:30am, when this report was filed.
Many were seen having to walk to their destinations due to the blockade, police and witnesses said.
