10 killed in Mymensingh, Manikganj road accidents

At least 10 people were killed and several others were injured in two road accidents in Mymensingh and Manikganj on Wednesday morning.

In Mymensingh, six people were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Chelerghat under Trishal upazila in Mymensingh on Wednesday morning.

Four of the deceased are Jesmine Akter, 35, Sirajul Islam, 40, Sohel Mia, 28, and Liton Mia, 30, of Sadar upazila while the identities of two others could not be known immediately.

Md Moinuddin, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said that a Dhaka-bound bus from Sherpur became out of order in Chelerghat area in the morning and its passengers got down from the bus.

As another bus arrived there, the passengers began to get on the second bus and a third bus hit the passengers from the back at about 7:15am, he said.

He said that three of the passengers died on the spot and 11 others received serious injuries.

Three of the injured ones died on the way to the hospital, he said.

Four people were killed and six other ones were injured as a human hauler plunged into a roadside pond after being hit by a bus on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Sadar upazila of Manikganj district on Wednesday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident took place at about 8:30am at Bhatbaur when the human hauler plunged into a roadside pond after being hit by a bus while picking and dropping off passengers — leaving four dead on the spot, said Abdur Rauf, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The six injured passengers were taken to a local hospital from where two were moved to Manikganj District Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, as they were in a critical condition.

Divers from the local fire service station rushed to the spot and recovered the dead bodies.
