Two buses set on fire in Gazipur, Dhaka during 24-hour blockade

Unruly people set fire to two buses in Gazipur and Dhaka on early Wednesday, during the countrywide 24-hour rail, road and waterways blockade called by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies.

A bus was set on fire at Uttar Salna in Gazipur city on Wednesday morning.

Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said miscreants set fire to the bus at about 6:30am.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.

Unidentified people set fire to a bus of Turag Paribahan at Dholaipar in Shyampur area of Dhaka on early Wednesday.

Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said miscreants set fire to the bus at about 5:30am and fled.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.

A 24-hour countrywide rail, road and waterways blockade was underway with some incidents of arson attacks.

Traffic movement on Dhaka-Mymensing and Dhaka-Tangail highways was thin, while vehicular movement on internal routes was normal.
