Train derailed in Gazipur as rail track uprooted, one killed

A man was killed and five other people were injured as seven compartments of a train derailed due to uprooting rail track near Bhawal Railway Station in Gazipur early Wednesday.

The deceased is Aslam Mia, 45, of Gafargaon in Mymensingh and the injured ones are now undergoing treatment at Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, said Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Arifin Siddiqui.

Joydebpur Railway Station master Hanif Ali said that seven compartments of Dhaka-bound ‘Mohonganj Express’ from Mymensingh veered off the tracks at about 4:30am, leaving one killed and five injured.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and are conducted rescue operation.

Train communication between Joydebpur and Mymensingh remained suspended following the derailment.

The station master said that they came to know that the derailment occurred as unidentified miscreants uprooted the rail track at the spot.

United News of Bangladesh, referring to local people as claiming, reported that the incident occurred as miscreants cut off the rail tracks as part of sabotage activities during the ongoing 36-hour rail, road, and waterway blockade enforced by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies.
