Train set on fire in Jaipurhat ahead of Victory Day

Unidentified miscreants set fire to a Parbatipur-bound mail train in Joypurhat at the night following Friday, on the eve of the Victory Day.

The train was set on fire on the way from Jamalganj Railway Station and reached Joypurhat Station while it was still burning.

Shantahar Railway Police Officer-in-Charge Muktar Hossain confirmed the matter.

The incident occurred at about 11:50pm on Friday when the train, named ‘Uttara Express’, was en route to Joypurhat from Jamalganj. Although a few seats in one bogie were engulfed in flames upon arrival at Joypurhat Railway Station, prompt action by station and fire service personnel prevented any significant damage or casualties, said the OC.

Master Rezaul Islam of Joypurhat Railway Station, said that, after the fire was extinguished, the train resumed its journey to its destination without any further disruptions.

The matter is being investigated, he said.
