Bangladesh Railway suspends service of five trains fearing sabotage

Services of five local, commuter and mail trains on different routes across the country were suspended in past one week fearing sabotage, Bangladesh Railway officials said.

Among the five trains, the latest one was suspended on Friday, Dhaka railway divisional manager Shafiqur Rahman said.

According to BR officials, they suspended three trains on December 15.

The trains include one local train on Ishwardi-Rajshahi-Rohonpur route, a local train on Mymensingh - Bhuapur route and one local train on Jamalpur-Tarakanda route.

On December 16, service of one commuter train on Dhaka-Narayanganj route was suspended.

On Friday, service of one mail train on Rajshahi-Parbatipur route was suspended.

The initiative was taken following recent arson attacks on the trains, Shafiqur Rahman said.

Four passengers, including a woman and her minor son, were killed when three compartments of a moving train were set on fire in Dhaka city on December 19.

On the same day, sabotage attempts were on targeting the railway as law enforcers foiled another attempt to set fire to a rail track in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur.

On the same day, local residents and railway officials said, miscreants stole several track bolts from the rail bridge in the Thakmaari Baddhobhumi under Rajahat upazila in Kurigram district.
