Bangladeshi man killed by Indian Khasias along Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead allegedly by Khasia people along the Bangladesh-India border in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Kawser Ahmed, 35, son of Roshan Ali, resident of Bhogaiya Dakhshin para in Bichanakandi union.

The incident took place around 9:30pm.

According to local people, Kawsar had been involved in the smuggling business. He crossed the Bichanakandi border in the afternoon to bring sugar from India illegally.

At that time, Khasia watchmen saw him from a garden in India and shot him dead.

Later, others who were with Kawsar brought the body home.

On information, a team of Gowainghat police station visited the spot.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat police station said that Kawsar was killed by Khasias while bringing sugar from India illegally through the border. The body will be sent to the morgue after recovery.

The matter is being investigated, said the OC.
