Two men were shot to death in a firing in Mohalchari upazila of Khagrachhari early on Wednesday.
The deceased, Robi Kumar Chakma, 65, and Shanto Chakma Bimal, 52, had been activists of the United People's Democratic Front, said UPDF Organizer Angya Marma.
He said another activist, Rahindra Chakma Tipon, 32, was missing.
The UPDF organizer said the three were in Mohalchari for organizational work when they were suddenly shot at by Nabyamukhosh Bahini.
Meanwhile, Shyamol Chakma Toru, president of the UPDF (Democratic), a faction of the organization, said the party had no organizational activities in the area, claiming that the deaths had been the result of an internal conflict.
Mohalchari police station Office-in-Charge Nasir Uddin said police had recovered two bodies from the spot, adding that they would be sent to Khagrachari District Hospital for autopsy.
