BNP calls for UN probe into BGB man killed in BSF firing

The BNP has demanded an inquiry under the United Nations (UN) into the killing of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) member Sepoy Mohammad Rais Uddin in a firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The demand was made in the meeting of the standing committee of the party, according to a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday.

"BNP's Standing Committee feels that 'Deliberate Killing' of BSF is now well-known.”

Delhi's ferocity and Dhaka's silence are behind these uncontrolled killings. The result of Sheikh Hasina's obedient permanent “political settlement” with Delhi is remaining silent on the border killings of Bangladeshis by BSF firing, said the release.

Referring to the Bangladesh-India border as the most violent and bloodstained in the world, the BNP said that despite repeated promises by the Indian government, the killing of Bangladeshi citizens by the BSF on the Bangladesh border continues to increase.

The news of loss of life is constantly being published in the media. According to the human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra, 201 Bangladeshi citizens have been killed by BSF firing in seven years, according to BNP.

The committee felt that what has been said by the BSF after the shooting death of Sepoy Mohammad Raisuddin is unacceptable.

India's ambitious policy is not stopping the bloodshed at the border. The BSF has turned the border areas of Bangladesh into a “blood-sport”. It is a hegemonic message to keep the people of Bangladesh on their knees, said BNP’s press release.

Sepoy Mohammad Rais Uddin was shot dead by India's Border Security Force (BSF) in the Benapole border area in Jessore.

Jessore-49 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Colonel Hossain Ahmed Jamil confirmed the matter in a press release on Tuesday morning.

According to BGB, some smugglers were bringing cattle from India through the Dhanyakhola border area on Monday morning. Sensing the matter, the BGB members chased the smugglers but they entered the Indian border.

At that time, BGB member Rais Uddin got separated from the team due to dense fog. Later BGB, through various sources, found out that he was injured in a BSF firing and was undergoing treatment in a hospital inside India.

Immediately after the incident, a flag meeting was held at the battalion commander level and it was learned that the BGB member died while undergoing treatment at that Indian hospital.
