Students demand half fare for metro rail

A group of students on Saturday formed a human chain demanding half fare for students as the current fare was not affordable for them.

They also demanded a reduction in the fare for everyone.

The human chain was formed under the banner General Students in front of the metro station in the capital’s Farmgate area at about 12:00pm.

The fares fixed by the metro rail authority turned out to be a disadvantage for the students and their families, the students said.

The protesters said that most people in the country could not get benefit from the service for its high fare and it became a luxury transport service instead of public transport service.

They claimed that no discount for students in the metro rail resulted in discrimination against students.

Protestors also said that the fare should be student friendly as most of the students in the country rely on public transports to travel to their educational institutions and back.

They alleged that the demand of the students for half fares in metro rail was being ignored.
