Chapainawabganj man injured in BSF firing

A youth was injured in a firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while fishing in the Mahananda River on the Bholahat border of Chapainawabganj.

The incident took place in the Polladanga area of Bholahat upazila, near the Indian border, around 9:30am on Saturday.

Injured youth identified as Jahangir Alam, 24, son of Abdul Quddus of Kolni Para,​​Daldaliunion, Bholahat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar confirmed.

The victim was shot in the right elbow. Police were sent to the spot after receiving the information, he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of 59 BGB battalion, said that he was injured when the BSF personnel fired a round at him as he crossed the border and entered the Indian border.

Locals rescued the injured youth and took him to the Bholahat Upazila Health Complex. After first aid, he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added.
