2 shot in Comilla City Corporation by-polls

Two people sustained gunshot wounds as a clash took place in a polling station during the Comilla City Corporation by-election.

They are supporters of the Horse symbol candidate Nizam Uddin Kaiser.

The two people Zahirul Ahmed and Tuhin were reportedly shot at around 10am by the supporter of metropolitan Chhatra League leader Tahsin Bahar Suman near Munshi M Ali High School centre in Ward No.19 of Comilla city.

The injured were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital with the help of locals.

Zahir said, “While I was standing next to the polling camp, Sujan, a supporter of the Bus symbol, the leader of the metropolitan Chhatra League, shot me and Tuhin in front of the police.”

Horse symbol candidate Nizam Uddin Kaiser said that the supporters of Suman, the candidate of the Bus symbol, were not allowed to go to the polls.

In this incident, Presiding Officer Hasan Ahmed Kamrul said that the incident happened outside the boundaries of the polling station, adding that he had reported the matter to the magistrate.

In this regard, the Returning Officer Farhad Hossain said: “Necessary arrangements will be made after confirming the matter.”

Comilla Sadar South police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed that two people were shot. However, he could not say who was involved.
