Govt committee for 3 paisa reduction per km in bus fare

The bus fare re-fixation committee on Monday proposed reducing bus fares by Tk 0.03 per kilometre following a slight decrease in fuel oil prices.

A meeting was held on the day at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority headquarters in this regard.

The recommendation was also sent to the road transport and bridges ministry on the same day for the finalisation, said the BRTA chairman Nur Mohmmad Mazumder.

‘The new fares will be effective after the ministry issues circular approving these recommendations,’ he added.

Currently the fare of diesel-powered buses and minibuses running on inter-district and long routes is Tk 2.15 a kilometre.

The committee recommended decreasing it to Tk 2.12 per kilometre.

The fare of buses running in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan cities is now Tk 2.45 a kilometre while the committee recommended decreasing it to Tk 2.42 per kilometre.

As for minibuses running in these two cities, the fare is now Tk 2.35 and the committee recommended making it Tk 2.32 per kilometre by reducing three paisa.

The minimum bus fares have been kept unchanged at Tk 10 in the cities.

Diesel and kerosene will now be sold at Tk 106 per litre down by Tk 2.25 from the previous rate of Tk 108.25 as the government set the automated retail prices of gasoline for the month of April on Sunday.

However, the prices of octane and petrol will remain unchanged.
