3 opposition candidates attacked in Bogura, Natore, Sylhet

Dhaka, Dec 19 (Just News): Three candidates of opposition parties came under attack reportedly by ruling Awami League men while electioneering in Natore, Bogura and Sylhet today.

BNP candidate was attacked in Natore while CPB in Bogura and Gono Forum in Sylhet.

In Natore, BNP candidate of Natore-2 Sabina Yasmin Chhobi was injured in an attack allegedly by AL activists this noon.

Sabina Yasmin claimed around 20 to 25 AL men attacked her car with bamboo and wooden sticks in Trimohini area of Naldanga upazila around 12:00pm.

Sabina, who sustained injuries in her right hand, said her motorcade came under attack while going to the Naldanga upazila for election campaign.

Assistant Returning Officer and UNO of Naldanga upazila Shakib Al Rabbi said that although some people tried to attack the BNP motorcade, they managed to escape the attack unharmed.

AL candidate for the constituency Md Shafiqul Islam Shimul claimed the BNP activists were trying to tear some election posters of AL.

Hence, some AL men chased them away, but did not carried out any attack, he added.

In Bogura, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) candidate for Bogura-6 constituency Aminul Farid's election campaign was allegedly attacked by the ruling party men in the district town this evening.

Aminul claimed that around 15-20 activists of Swechasebak League attacked them while they were campaigning in Satmatha area of the town.

The group of people led by Nasimul Bari Nasim, general secretary of Bogura city unit Swechasebak League, also beat up Aslam Khan, a central leader of CPB and have locked up their electoral camp, he claimed.

The ruling party men also snatched their loudspeaker, using for electioneering, he alleged.

Protesting the attack, the CPB activists staged a sit-in programme there and vowed that they will not leave the area until the attackers are arrested.

Contacted, Nasimul Bari Nasim denied the claims of attack.

Officer-in-Charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station SM Badiuzzaman said that there was no incident of such attack.

He, however, said that some unidentified men snatched away their loudspeaker.
