Party activists being held in secret detention: BNP

Dhaka, Dec 20 (Just News): The BNP claims that its activists and leaders are being held in secret detentions ahead of the Dec 30 general election.

Speaking at a media call on Thursday, its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that when Sheikh Hasina asked for forgiveness from the nation for their mistakes while unveiling Awami League’s manifesto on Dec 18, three people died in extra-judicial killings in Munshiganj.

He also expressed hope that people will overcome all obstacles and appear at polling centers on December 30 to re-establish their rights.

“Our candidates want safety for their lives but they are not getting it from the administration. The general public is spontaneously showing up at our campaign rallies despite many hindrances,” he said.

On the issue of attacks on BNP men by alleged ruling party activists—and the inaction of the Election Commission on the matter—Rizvi said: “Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda is in favor of the attackers. Now there is no congenial election environment in Bangladesh.”

The senior BNP leader also demanded the immediate release of all arrested BNP leaders and activists.
