Dhaka, Dec 20 (Just News): BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront today demanded scope of fielding alternative candidates or rescheduling of the election in the parliamentary constituencies from where the High Court has disqualified their candidates on different grounds.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan submitted a letter to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda this afternoon seeking his attention in this regard.
Khan also the election coordinator of the Oikyafront said that the High Court has disqualified at least eight candidates from running the December 30 parliamentary polls.
He said that they urged the EC to give chance to the party to pick alternative candidates from those who have submitted nomination papers and got the final nod from the EC.
He said the court has disqualified BNP and Oikyafront candidates aiming at providing walkover to the ruling party candidates in the election.
The High Court today scrapped the nomination of eight BNP candidates for not resigning from their posts of upazila chairmen.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam came up with the verdict after hearing their pleas.
The candidates whose nominations were rejected are- Fraidul Kabir Shami for Jamalpur-4, Abdul Muhith Talukder for Bogura-3, Moslem Uddin for Brahmanbaria-4, Asaduzzaman for Rangpur-1, Mahmud Hossain from Mymensingh-8, Abdul Majid for Jhenaidah-2, Fazlur Rahman for Jaipurhat-1 and Abu Syed Chaad for Rajshahi-6.
Previously the commission has accepted their nominations though they did not step down from their executive posts.
