2 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in Feni ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Dagonbhuiyan upazila of Feni in the wee hours of today.

The deceased were identified as Asad, 42, and Emamul Akand, 24, both hailing from Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district, a correspondent from Feni reports.

Tipped-off, a team of Rab-7 signalled a lorry to stop in Silonia Bazar area, said Squadron Leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim, commander of Rab-7 Feni camp.

But the people inside the lorry tried to escape firing shots at the elite force members forcing them to retaliate which triggered the “gunfight”, he said.

At one stage, the duo caught in line of fire and died on the spot, he added.

A gun, 13 bullets, 250kg of cannabis were recovered from the scene. The lorry was also seized by the Rab men.

The bodies were sent to Feni Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
