The garment workers freed Saat Rasta intersection (Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Sarani) in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area one and a half hours after they blocked the road this morning demanding a hike in their wages.
Their blockade was withdrawn around 9:30am after police persuaded them to vacate the busy thoroughfare, a police official told our photojournalist wishing anonymity.
According to Bangla daily Prothom Alo, the workers of a few garment factories including those of Standard Garments took to the streets around 8:00am, creating severe gridlock on Mohakhali-Moghbazar road and its adjoining areas.
Commuters suffered immensely due to the aggravated traffic condition due to the blockade, the report said quoting Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
