Two suspected robbers were killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Tongi Bridge area of Gazipur early today.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Three Rab members were also injured in the gunfight.
Sources at Rab-1 said being tipped off that a gang of robbers was committing robbery after intercepting a private case in the area around 12:30am a patrol team of Rab-1 went to the spot and challenged them, said Company commander of Rab-1 senor ASP Mohammad Kamruzzaman.
Sensing danger, the "robbers" opened fire on Rab members, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Two "robbers" sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight and they were taken to Ahsanullah Master General Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
One pistol, seven mobile phone sets, sharp weapons and six shells of bullets were recovered from the spot.
