Another dies of dengue in city

A security guard of a company died of dengue at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Fakir, 45, a security guard of Madina Group and son of Shakhawat Hossain of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat district.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said Fakir was admitted to the hospital on August 30 with fever and diarrhea, and he breathed his last around 11:32 am.

Fakir had been living at Chawkbazar in the city along with his family.

A total of 865 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Monday morning.

Statistics provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) this afternoon showed 3,931 people are currently being treated for dengue, including 2,177in Dhaka.

The number of dengue cases was 902 on Sunday while 760 on Saturday. It was 1,025 on Friday, 1,189 on Thursday, 1,157 on Wednesday.

The government said 71,962 patients had been hospitalised since January 1. Of them, 67,843 were discharged after recovery.

Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information of 185 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 96 cases and found 57 of them as dengue ones after lab test.
