Over 450 new dengue patients hospitalised in 24hrs

As many as 461 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country in the 24 hours till 8am on Monday (Sept 23).

Of them, 143 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 318 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a statement that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 2,018.

A total of 68 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh between Jan 1 and Sept 23, according to it data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 160, so far.

As many as 861 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,157 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS said.

Between Jan 1 and Sept 23, as many as 85,288 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 83,067 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
