A majority of dengue infections occurred in Bangladesh this year among people who spent more time outside their homes.

And about 74 per cent of hospitalized dengue patients were students and service holders, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research.

And this year, most of the dengue patients were adolescent and young people, says the IEDCR.

According to the IEDCR, at least 37 per cent of the hospitalized dengue patients were students and service holders made up 37 per cent.

Housewives made up 13 per cent of the hospitalized dengue patients, five per cent were businessmen and eight per cent were from other professions, show IEDCR findings.

People in the age group of 15-25 made up 28 per cent of the hospitalized dengue patients, 21 per cent were in the 26-35 age bracket, 17 per cent were in 5-15 age group and 12 per cent were in the 36-45 age group.

And eight per cent of the dengue patients were below 5 another eight per cent were in the 45-55 age group and seven per cent were above 56.

And 71 per cent of the dengue patients were male, show the IEDCR findings

A female dengue patient died at the Khulna Medical College Hospital early Wednesday.

And 398 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours ending at 8AM Wednesday.

KMCH dengue ward in-charge Partha Devnath told New Age that Lovely Akhter, 30, wife of Jamir Ali of Baliadanga, Keshabpur, Jashore died of dengue early Wednesday.

Lovely was admitted to the KMCH Tuesday evening and she died at around 2.30AM, he said.

This year, Bangladesh saw an unprecedented dengue outbreak.

Since January, at least 86,155 dengue patients were hospitalized.
