3 held, large amount of illegal liquor seized in Fu Wang Club

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have detained three people and seized large amount of illegal liquor from Fu Wang Club on Gulshan Link road in Dhaka's Tejgaon area.

A team of RAB 1 conducted the raid around 1:30am on Thursday.

RAB Director (Legal and Media wing) Lt Col Md Sarwar Bin Kashem confirmed on Thursday.

In a press briefing, he said: "They have the license to sell liquor, but they did not follow many terms and conditions of the deed.

"We have seized over 2,000 bottles of liquor, 10,000 beer cans and large amount of foreign cigarettes, which were not supposed to be in the club."

The club will be sealed and a case -- either under the Special Powers Act or Narcotics Control Act --will be filed against them, the RAB official added.

When asked about the previous raid at the club, Sarwar said: "It was a different raid and we are not concerned about it. Our raid has found irregularities here."

Earlier on Monday, police raided Fu Wang Club amid allegations of running a casino, but no irregularities were found.

The mobile court judge in the raid, Dhaka district administration's Executive Magistrate Md Abdul Al Mamun, then said: "The club has a bar, but the authorities has shown us their license for the business."

The club's Manager Md Shamim Billah ha permission to run the bar, but no gambling activities were taking place there.

Since September 18, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police raided different clubs across Bangladesh, busting illegal casinos. Several people, including Jubo league leaders, were detained in these raids.
