In a major reshuffle after the appointment of new Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, seven out of 50 officers-in-charge were transferred today and given new postings.
Of them, four were transferred from one police station to another in the city while three were transferred to detective branch (DB) of DMP.
Besides, four inspectors (investigation) of four police stations were posted as OCs and transferred to four police stations.
DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam took the move today when the anti-gambling crackdown and correction drive was going on amid allegations of patronising gamblers by some field level officers.
Besides, there are allegations that some OCs are discharging duties at different police stations over the years.
OC of Motijheel Police Station Omar Faruk was transferred to DB (north). He was replaced by Kalabagan Police Station OC Yeasin Arafat Khan.
The ongoing anti-gambling drive by Rab found six clubs in Motijheel area were operating casino gambling for long, thanks to the inaction by the police.
Meanwhile, Poritosh Chandra, inspector (investigation) of Uttara East Police was given the charge of OC of Kalabagan Police.
OC Mirpur Police Station Dadan Fakir was replaced by OC Khilkhet Mostazirur Rahman. Dadan was transferred to DB south division while Borhan Uddin, inspector (investigation) of Banani Police Station was elevated to the post of OC and transferred to Khilkhet Police Station.
Mizanur Rahman, OC of Shyampur Police Station, was posted to Kotwali Police Station while its outgoing OC Shahidur Rahman was transferred to DB west division. Mofizul Alam, inspector (investigation) of Sabuzbagh Police Station was given the charge of OC of Shyampur Police.
Bhatra Police Station OC Abu Bakar Siddique was given the charge of OC of Paltan Police Station. OC Paltan Mahmudul Haque was suspended on Monday following allegations of rape.
Moktaruzzaman, inspector (investigation) of Airport Police Station, was transferred to Bhatara Police Station as its OC.
Earlier on September 15, the commissioner during his first briefing to media expressed his dissatisfaction over the service in the police stations and said he would take over the duties of officer-in-charge (OC) if service at police stations do not improve.
He also directed his senior officers to start sitting in police stations if desired change does not happen at the stations
