Rifat murder case: 2 accused denied HC bail

The HC today refused to grant bail to two accused including a minor in sensational Rifat Sharif murder case in Barguna.

Rafiul Islam Rabbi and the 14-year-old accused are now in jail in connection with the case.

Today, the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman also dropped the bail petition from its hearing list.

The bench passed the order as Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ulla vehemently opposed their bail petitions saying that they have made confessional statements to the magistrate and they cannot be granted bail in the murder case.

Adv Jahangir Hossain and Adv Sagir Ahmed appeared for the accused.

The duo submitted two separate bail petitions to the HC through their lawyers last week.

On August 29, the High Court granted bail to Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni in the case on conditions that she cannot talk to the media and she will remain in her father’s custody.

If Minni breaches the conditions, her bail will be cancelled, the court said while delivering the verdict on her bail petition.

Rifat Sharif, 25, an internet service provider, was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Minni’s college in Barguna town on June 26.

In the CCTV footage of the incident, Minni was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the attackers.

Rifat’s father filed the murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the day of the incident. The prime accused in the case, Nayan Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
