Body of Wazid found 46hrs after Nganj building collapse

The body of 10-year-old Iftakar Ahmed Wazid was recovered this afternoon, 46 hours after a three-storey building collapsed in Narayanganj.

The fire service members found his body at the balcony of the collapsed building after breaking the wall of that portion, Abdullah Arefin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told our Narayanganj correspondent.

The building collapsed on the canal around 4:15pm on Sunday in Baburail area of the city.

With this death toll from the incident stood at two as Md Soyahor Hossain, a sixth-grader of Sunrise Model School and also a cousin of Wazid was killed in the building collapse.

Wazid, also a student of grade six of the same school, who used to live in an adjacent building with his family went to that building for private tuition. He is the son of Abdul Rubel of the area.

Fire service officials earlier said the building might have collapsed due to faulty underground piling as it was built occupying a part of a canal.

After the collapse, a few rooms of the building were submerged in the canal.

Some locals said the three-storey building was constructed around 10 years ago. The construction of the fourth floor was still incomplete.
