Another 120 Bangladeshis deported from Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has sent back another 120 Bangladeshis on Friday (Nov 22) night, raising the number of deportees to 2615 in the last three weeks, reports UNB.

The workers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:20 pm by Saudi Airlines flight SV-804.

According to information of Prabashi Kalyan Desk and officials of BRAC’s Migration Programme that 21,000 Bangladeshis have returned home from Saudi Arabia in the last 10 months.

Narrating his experience Afzal 26, of Narayanganj, said, “I went to Saudi Arabia expending Tk 300,000 just two and a half months ago. Unfortunately, I was caught by Saudi police who forcibly sent me back to the country despite having ‘Akama’.”

Like Afzal, Kamrul of Brahmanbaria also went there at cost of Tk 0.46 million two and half months back but compelled to return home without any money.

Montu Mia, Saidul Islam of Brahmanbaria, Nime of Narasindi, Faruk Hossain of Habiganj and Saiful Islam of Dhaka were also sent back home in the same way.

Many of the deported workers complained that paid money to Kafil (employers) for making Akama, but Kafil did not make Akama.

After arrest, they contacted Kafil but they refused to take their responsibility and suggested the administration to send them home cancelling their visa.

Shariful Hassan, head of Brac’s Migration Programme, “We are expecting that a meeting between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia will be held three days later when this issue alongside the issue of female workers will be discussed. We have to stop fraudulence in the name of free visas.”
