32 detained while entering Bangladesh from India

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained 32 people while they were entering Bangladesh from India through Doulatpur border early Sunday.

Among the detainees, 17 were men, 13 women and two children.

Mozammel Hossain, commander of BGB 49, said on secret information that a big number of people will intrude into the country from India, BGB conducted a drive and detained them from a mango orchard.

All the detainees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he said.

Jorina Begum, 35, one of the detainees, said they had been living in Bengaluru of India for long time.

“Police detained them and sent them back to Bangladesh,” she claimed.

Alamgir Khan, 45, another detainee, said seven of his family members were living in Bengaluru but Indian police detained them and handed over to Border Security Force (BSF) of India.

“BSF men pushed us into Bangladesh territory through the border,” Alamgir said.

The detainees also claimed that they hail from Bagerhat and Munshiganj districts.
